Citizens do not view the decline in the number of active subscribers to the Social Security Corporation as a mere figure in an economic report. Rather, they see it as a direct reflection of the difficult living conditions faced by workers across various sectors, amid fears of a widening circle of people left outside the umbrella of social protection.

Citizens say that the in subscriber numbers raises questions about the situation of workers who lose their subscriptions during certain periods, especially those on temporary or seasonal contracts. They believe the problem lies not only in the Social Security numbers, but in job stability and income levels.


One citizen said: “Today, a worker’s main concern is securing a living. Many people work on temporary contracts or without stability, and if their Social Security subscription stops, they feel they are losing their right to the future.”

On the other hand, some citizens believe that fear of amendments to Social Security laws or changes to retirement conditions has made some subscribers hesitant, calling on the Corporation to clearly explain any changes so that trust between citizens and the insurance system does not decline.

A citizen working in the private sector said: “Social Security is the only source of security for an employee, but people become afraid when they hear about changes or new conditions. What’s needed is to reassure people, not increase their anxiety.”

Citizens point out that halting the subscriptions of some workers during breaks or transitional periods leaves them with gaps in protection, calling for solutions that take into account the nature of certain professions that don’t provide a steady income throughout the year.

Others stress that addressing this issue shouldn’t be limited to obligating citizens to subscribe, but should also involve improving working conditions, raising wages, and providing stable jobs — so that Social Security enrollment becomes a natural right rather than an additional burden on the worker.

Amid concerns over the loss of social protection and the challenges of the labor market, citizens are calling on the Social Security Corporation to provide clearer data on the reasons for the decline, and to develop solutions that preserve Jordanians’ trust in one of the most important social security systems.
